Pond River Farmstand and Baking Co.

Pond River Farmstand & Baking Co. is a small farm in Madisonville, KY. My late husband and I bought the property in 2016 with plans to become Market Farmers, meaning everything we grew, we grew it for sale at the farmers market. After he passed, I decided to continue what we had worked so hard for, but needing additional income, I added CSA sales.

I offer a 24-week option for $500 or a 12-week option for $250. Pickup is Friday after 5 pm at the farmstand at my farm or on Saturday morning at the Farmers Market.

Because the term CSA isn’t super well known in my area, I tend to call them “veggie boxes,” and since I make various value-added products, I add them to my boxes often.

I’m hoping that this will be my biggest year yet!! “ - Credit

Boxcroft Garden & Design

Boxcroft Garden & Designs is a small 51-acre farm in western Kentucky that specializes in fresh veggies, baked bread, cut flowers, artwork, and jewelry. Their CSA subscription is now open!

Boxcroft Garden and Designs offers a 17-week season from early June to late September or early October. Their farm is located in Dawson Springs, and they also have a pick-up at the Saturday Hopkins County Farmers Market, which is located in Madisonville.

If you are in their area, they encourage you to join their CSA membership. This year, they have a flower CSA, a veggie CSA, and a mix CSA, which includes their wonderful baked breads. They can even set you up on a payment plan if you like. You won’t be disappointed!

They have quite the lineup for flowers! Many are already in the ground and doing great. The list is twice what they have grown in the past. Boxcroft Gardens and Designs is excited to have its first year with daffodils and tulips! If they get a good crop of these, they will offer it to anyone who has already signed up for a flower CSA or the mixed CSA.

Their veggie lineup offers quite the array, too, including all kinds of lettuce and asparagus. Last year, they tested peppers, which did great, so they’ll be expanding on those, along with lots of melons they want to trial.

All in all, Boxcroft Gardens and Designs are looking forward to sharing a deliciously colorful season with you. To learn more, visit https://boxcroftgardens.com/services/

Rooster’s Beef

Rooster’s Beef is located on a three-generation old family farm in Madisonville, KY, currently run by William and Becky Slaton. They raise Angus cows and pigs to provide fresh, individually packaged meat products to the local community.

Rooster’s Beef is part of the American Angus Association, is certified Kentucky Proud, and all of their products are inspected and approved by the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture).

Rooster’s Beef is the name of the meat business started on Rocky Bluff Farm; the “Rooster” comes from William Slaton’s father’s nickname.

William’s sister, Carolyn Hall, joined the farm when Rooster’s Beef was first created to work in marketing and bookkeeping. There are many job opportunities just within the realm of agriculture.
